Who Are We?
In Gear Career is a program of Hiring Our Heroes and The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. We believe passionately that “sacrifice” doesn’t have to mean giving up your career. We are here to help you navigate the unique realities faced by the career-minded Military Spouse.
Who Do We Serve?
We serve Spouses who are committed to pursuing their own career alongside the career of their service member. Our members work in healthcare, law, media, marketing, education and just about any other industry you can imagine. We proudly serve all spouses of Active Duty, Guard/Reserve, Veteran and Gold Star Servicemembers.
How Did We Get Here?
In Gear Career was founded by three Military Spouses who have met countless talented Military Spouses unable to find work appropriate to their level of education, experience and aptitude.
Specifically, Haley Uthlaut, Military Spouse, Veteran, Gold Star Wife and mother, identified a gap in Military Spouse employment services. She noted that existing programs primarily targeted entry level or gender-centric positions. While these programs have value and serve a portion of our population, they do not address the networking, advocacy or advancement needs of the more career-minded Military Spouse.
Haley approached Lauren Weiner and Donna Huneycutt, Military Spouses and the owners of Wittenberg Weiner Consulting, LLC to support her in implementing her vision. With their leadership, financial support and the dedication of many volunteers, In Gear Career was established.
To improve the quality of life, morale and stability for military families by enabling Military Spouses to seek professional employment and maintain long term career paths despite the transient nature and demands of the military lifestyle.
To promote and advance the employment, career development and networking opportunities for Military Spouses across all professional occupations by enabling the exchange of accurate, timely and topical information through local and online community building efforts and advocacy programs.
Military Spouses find that one of the greatest impediments to achieving long-term career growth is the difficulty they have building a professional network each time they relocate. In order to address this need, In Gear Career will establish two different types of communities in which Military Spouses with professional careers can interact.
Local Chapters. Groups of career minded Military Spouses will be established and meet for support, professional development and networking opportunities near all major military installations.
In Gear Career develops and provides free professional career resources and advice tailored specifically for Military Spouses.
In Gear Career will give voice to the professionally driven Military Spouse. We will listen to your issues, aggregate information, and unify your voices to create change.
