June Military Spouse Volunteer of the Month

In Gear Career is able to provide our services because of wonderful Military Spouses who understand what it means to serve. Many people contribute to our collective success, but this month we would like to recognize Jennifer Simpson for her for her outstanding work with and dedication to In Gear Career’s Sigonella chapter.

Jennifer is the Sigonella Chapter Events Coordinator and has done a fantastic job serving the spouses in her community. She initiated the chapter’s Passport to Success program and has been actively managing logistics for Sigonella’s many events. Jennifer’s attention to detail, enthusiasm and creativity have played a huge part in the chapter’s success. Thank you Jennifer!

Meet Jennifer Simpson

Jennifer blazed a professional path across the U.S. with a shining trail that followed her to Sicily, where she leads a team of six employees and started up the local In Gear Career chapter in January 2013.

After one tour active duty in the Navy (where she met her husband) Jennifer was honorably discharged and started the great adventure as a military spouse – now going on seventeen years strong!

Jennifer obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration while juggling two little ones in diapers, three permanent duty station moves, her husband’s three deployments and a full-time job. After her first position in finance, she maneuvered herself into financial sector positions at each new duty station. Currently, she is a Supervisory Senior Analyst for Wittenberg Weiner Consulting at NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella, where she focuses on budget formulation and execution and automating systems to maximize efficiencies.

She has been stationed in various locations across the U.S., including Texas, Hawaii, Tennessee, California, Washington, Illinois, Colorado, and Virginia, and now is on her second military spouse tour in Sigonella, Sicily.

With so many moves, developing a professional career was difficult. Jennifer credits her success to her self-motivation and saying “yes” to every opportunity. She is passionate about supporting military spouse employment and professional development; she wants to share her lessons learned with today’s up-and-coming military spouses, as well as continue her professional development and support a professional military spouse network.

As the Sigonella Chapter’s Events Coordinator, Jennifer helps make sure the chapter is available to spouses at each point in their career development. She also ensures that Sigonella’s events deliver tangible takeaways for the attendees, be it a digital headshot, advice from a hiring professional, or a Passport to Success. Volunteering with In Gear Career is a meaningful way that Jennifer can pay it forward to the military community and support spouses facing the struggles she overcame in her career development.

Jennifer has two amazing sons who are quickly approaching their teenage years. When not working or volunteering with In Gear Career, she actively volunteers with her children’s activities in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the local swim team.
